When Should You Wear Ear Protection
Today it's not too common to see folks wearing hearing protection when doing simple things such as mowing the lawn, running a leaf blower or blowing snow in the Winter months but It's never too late to prevent yourself from hearing loss. Don't expect to hear as well as you did when you were very young, but starting now, if you haven't already, you can make the most of your hearing and slow down any hearing loss. Any sound that's loud enough to hurt your ears, cause hearing loss temporarily, and possible ear ringing noises that can actually damage the hair cells in your ears which may resort to permanent damage. Such noises include chain saws, snow blowers, leaf blowers, lawn mowers. When you know you're going to be exposed to loud noises, wear earplugs, earmuffs, or both to lower the decibel. Proper hearing protection can lessen the noise up to 30db. Earmuffs offer more protection against higher frequency levels and you can get by with earplugs for the lower noise. When you aware that you will be around noises that are louder than 105 dB for long periods of time you may want to wear the muffs and plugs together for best protection. One great example would be if you are out at a firing range.

Shooters look at these, and shop workers look too! By - Tool User
Worried about your stock hitting your muffs? These are about the thinnest you will find in the area of your stock. Electronic muffs in conjunction with earplugs make a world of difference in the shooting sports. A competitive Shotgun shooter will be close to 400-600 shotgun discharges a day. 25DB reduction by one level of protection is not enough, add these and I think you will be impressed. They fit me great and I think they have an ear cup that is made for larger ears, compared to some other brands. There is also an plug so that you can attach your Ipod or other device. Of course that may not be the best thing to do if you tend to crank up the volume, so be prudent. I have not tested this feature, but a patch cable is included as are the batteries. Another brand I reviewed did not include the batteries nor did the option of plugging in another device exist. Leight is ahead, I think.
Perfect Ear Muffs By - JS
Cheaper noise canceling safety ear muffs will turn off the sound for
almost a full second after a noise impact (usually gun shot). These
filter them out and bring the sound right back in. The sound is clear
and static free, a difficulty with cheaper muffs also.
When I turn these up, I can hear far better than natural ability in
the woods. These are equal in function and quality to many $150-200
pairs I have tried. Exceptional value.

I bought these for shooting. Things I really like:
1. Styling is cool, professional looking
2. They fold nicely into a compact bundle
3. Fit is tight, very comfortable, and adjustable
4. The volume knob is easy to find and operate
5. The profile is slim, which allows you to get close to the rifle stock
6. Amplification works great - hearing conversations is not a problem (stereo mics probably help..)
7. When listening to music, you can still hear external sounds
8. The integrated MP3 player jack is a nice touch
9. The four-hour auto-shutoff feature is nice too
If I were to nitpick a little, I'd have to say that the amplified
sound is more on the high-frequency side. Same applies to the music -
you won't get much bass.
