I found Cosequin for dogs while doing an internet search some time last summer after trying several different brands of joint care products for dogs. About 4 years ago when we were out pheasant hunting, Kasey had been run over and suffered from a fractured front shoulder. Unfortunately, her hunting days were over. As mentioned earlier, I tryed several other brands of joint care products that really didn't seem to help that much. Nutramax Cosequin has had nothing but very positive effects for my dog Kasey and we are very glad we found it.

So what is this Cosequin for Dogs all about? Studies have proven that like humans, dogs experience arthritis as well as deterioration of healthy cartilage on their joints as they grow old. This explains why that some dogs move with tremendously lesser mobility or they move around limping and in pain. Because there are millions of dogs around the country, vets and other concerned citizens act to support dogs with failing health and mobility, and along the way Nutramax came in to provide much needed help with their trademark product line Cosequin for dogs specifically. Their products are called Cosequin DS (double strength) and Cosequin Regular Strength, both specially formulated to help dogs regain or improve their mobility with healing and health boosting elements. Cosequin DS and Regular Strength are technically the canine counterparts to Nutramax’s other product called Cosequin for Cats.

Cosequin Regular Strength variants share very similar effects with those of Cosequin DS. The difference is that Regular Strength is formulated specifically for smaller dogs while DS is meant for larger dogs. Cosequin DS (whether capsules or tablets) have amounts of 500 mg – 600 mg of Glucosamine, 400 mg of Chondroitin, and 5 mg of Manganese Ascorbate. Regular Strength has roughly half of those amounts. Pet owners should be happy to know that the capsules or tablets of Cosequin for dogs are relatively easy to feed. They can be mixed in with the dog’s food or fed to them directly via their mouths. All in all, Nutramax has proven itself as a tremendous contributor to the health and wellbeing of dogs with their Cosequin products, which to date have been positively received by vets, researchers and members of the media around the nation. Mans Best Friend

My buddy "Kasey". Although she can play quite hard in the yard again, I can no longer take her out for a long days of hunting as she still is not 100% and may never be again. We are just very happy about the results she has had so far from Cosequin as she loves to play fetch and will for hours if you don't make her stop. Before Cosequin for dogs she would be very store and limp if she played too hard but I am very happy to report that her discomfort has been more than cut in half. It hasn't been a miracle cure but I know Kasey is happier.

How Cosequin Works

Cosequin is a natural supplement that contains three specific ingredients that work wonders together – Manganese Ascorbate, Glucosamine and Chondroiting Sulfate. Together they release nutrients and the result is the boosting of enzymes within the joint tissue to prevent deterioration as well as strengthening the fiber of each and every join. After some daily uses, Cosequin’s wonders will relieve your dog of arthritis and eventually help them recover quickly and be able to move around better. The usefulness of Cosequin,, can help any dog owner or vet avoid sending the dog for joint surgery and be able to save a whole lot of money in the process.

Dog Reviews

We were considering hip replacement surgery

February 8, 2006: We were considering hip replacement surgery for our 90 lb lab who was diagnosed with hip dysplaysia. Our vet recommended we try Cosequin DS first. We had tried similar products with no improvement and didn't expect this to work either. We were wrong. There was a marked difference in our lab's activity level within the first two weeks. Currently, he plays runs, and jumps with no pain. This product worked wonders for our dog.

UPDATE June 18, 2007: Cosequin did work wonders for our lab, but he also has Degenerative Myelopathy which was missed due to the hip dysplasia. We had never heard of this disease and didn't know the signs or symptoms to watch for. Please, if your dog is on a joint therapy product, search for Degenerative Myelopathy on the internet and familiarize yourself with the symptoms. As the disease progresses without treatment, your dog's chance for recovery and/or stabilization become less and less. The University of Florida has a lot of information on their website regarding this disease and a video depicting dogs in various stages of this disease.

Have had our two 60 and 70 lb dogs on this now for about 6 months, marked improvment in our older dog. his left rear leg shaking has improved a great deal, much more like his old self. running and playing with the younder one. (and us) I recommend. as the other review says, does not hurt. and we think helps.

Nutramax Cosequin DS Double-Strength Chewable Tablets, 250 Tablets (Misc.) Kyra, our Siberian Husky, came to us as a stray and limping very badly. Thinking she had been maybe hit by a car before we rescued her, we took her to the vet for x-rays and discovered severe hip dysplasia - one joint was barely in its socket. We consulted with a specialty vet hospital about hip replacement, and then put off the decision. In the meantime, for the last 1 1/2 years, we've been giving her Cosequin. It was only a few months before the limp was not only completely gone, but she was tearing around the house playing chase with our Golden Retriever. We had to put rugs down on our bare floors to help prevent her slipping and sliding, but she does it anyway, and it never slows her down. At the lake, she out-swims Jake and she just never tires out. (Jake doesn't have joint problems but he gets Cosequin too!) I suppose as Kyra gets older we will have to again consider the hip replacement, but I feel that is years away now. And by the way, I take the people version of this same brand!

Cosequin for cats, used for UTI and joint health, February 5, 2011 By - LJB

Cosequin for Cats, 80 Sprinkle Capsules (Misc.) My 16 year old cat has been on Cosequin for about 4 years. She had idiopathic urinary tract problems. The Cosquin helps maintain urinary bladder health. Along with a human prescription (very expensive!) her symptoms went away. I've continued using the Cosequin (and not the expensive prescription) for bladder health and the additional benefit is she runs around the house like a kitten! I've started giving it to her brother to help him with the aches in his joints as well.

We are happy with this product and will purchase more., January 24, 2011 By - SAK

I am happy to report that Ulie our 13 years old orange tabby, seems to be jumping in and out of our bed with less effort. He chases our other cat Mimi with renewed gusto. Thank you

Deserves more than five stars!, January 24, 2011 By - Rose

My poor 15-year-old cat was struggling to jump on my low bed before cosequin. She would walk so slow, and she had even developed a slight limp. After doing my research, I decided to try Cosequin. It has made such a huge difference!! It has taken at least 5-6 years off her age. Her limp is gone, she now jumps on top of my kitchen counter, and she runs all over the house. I suggest following the directions about the initial administration. Give it to your pet every day for a few weeks until you reach your desired level, and then change to every other day administration. It took about a week to see a significant change in my cat's behavior. The only draw back is that my cat hates the flavor of these pills! Even if I mixed it in her wet food, she could still taste it and wouldn't eat it. My suggestion is to sneak the medicine in by sprinkling the powder on a small piece of ham or turkey and smashing it until the piece of meat won't flop open. It seems tedious but it is well worth the effort! And amazon sold double the amount of capsules at half the price of the same pills at your local pet store. Win-win!
